LittleAsia recipe book

Background
kisÁzsia (littleAsia) is a contemporary recipe collection by Dávid Kárai, inspired by the rich and vibrant cultures of Asia. The recipes are rooted in the author’s personal travel experiences across the region, translating cultural impressions into accessible, home-cooked dishes.

Project Overview
While many Asian-themed cookbooks rely on hard-to-source ingredients, kisÁzsia takes a different approach. Both the preparation process and ingredient lists were intentionally simplified, making Asian-inspired fusion dishes achievable within a European context. The design concept mirrors this idea by moving away from conventional gastronomy book aesthetics. A recurring “frame” element forms the structural foundation of the layout, unifying the book visually while symbolically reflecting how the content is shaped by Asian influences and grounded in local possibilities.

Results and Impact
The book uses two different paper sizes to create a dynamic reading experience. In the introductory section, imagery frames the text, while in the recipe section the hierarchy shifts to prioritize clarity and usability. Colored paper was selected to soften contrast between ink and surface, resulting in a warm, friendly, and modern visual tone. Red and pink play a central role in the color palette, drawing on their psychological and cultural associations with the content. Together, these design decisions create a cohesive editorial experience that feels both contemporary and approachable.
